# Can't reply to Instagram chats? Here's how to fix it

Troubleshoot common reasons you cannot reply to Instagram conversations in DoubleTick.

If you open an Instagram chat on DoubleTick and see this error when trying to send a message —

<mark style="color:$danger;">`The action is invalid since it's not the thread owner`</mark>

— another platform has taken over as the Default Application, putting DoubleTick in standby mode. A standby channel can read messages but cannot send replies.

#### <mark style="color:$primary;">**Why is this happening?**</mark>

Meta allows multiple platforms to connect to your Instagram account. When more than one is connected, Meta picks one as the Default Application — the only one allowed to send messages. If another platform (like ManyChat, Tidio, or similar) connected before DoubleTick, it likely claimed this spot, leaving DoubleTick unable to reply.

1. Open your **Facebook Page** — the one linked to your Instagram account.
2. Go to **Settings** on your Facebook Page.
3. Click on **Advanced Messaging** from the left sidebar.
4. Scroll down to the **Instagram Permissions** section. You'll see two toggles:
   * **Access Standby Channel** — Already ON. Leave it as is.
   * **Take Control of Conversations** — Turn this ON.
5. Make sure **both toggles are ON**, then click **Save**.
6. Come back to DoubleTick and try replying — it should work now!

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.doubletick.io/additonal-channels/instagram/cant-reply-to-instagram-chats-heres-how-to-fix-it.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
