# How to onboard your Instagram account

Learn how to connect an Instagram business or creator account to DoubleTick so Instagram DMs land in the same inbox as your other conversations.

DoubleTick supports Instagram as a conversation channel, so you can receive and respond to Instagram messages directly from your DoubleTick inbox, without switching between apps.

#### What's covered

* [Before you begin](#before-you-begin)
* [How to connect your Instagram account](#how-to-connect-your-instagram-account)
* [How to assign Instagram channel access to team members](#how-to-assign-instagram-channel-access-to-team-members)
* [Key takeaways](#key-takeaways)

#### Before you begin

Make sure you have one of the following before starting:

* An Instagram business account.
* An Instagram professional (creator) account.

{% hint style="warning" %}
A personal Instagram account can't be connected to DoubleTick.
{% endhint %}

#### How to connect your Instagram account

<figure><img src="https://2303112206-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F53n17VnOICC1LtDqlENV%2Fuploads%2FrYtKoGYSlc2WoL4WA3nZ%2FUntitled%20design%20-%202026-04-20T163355.989.gif?alt=media&#x26;token=947116b5-787f-47d9-89d1-c07a054a9cdd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Hover over the left-hand navigation panel to expand it, then click **Settings**.
* Inside Settings, click **Manage channels**. This section shows all the channels and API numbers currently connected to your DoubleTick account.
* On the right-hand side of the Manage channels screen, click **Connect new channels**.
* A pop-up asks which type of channel you want to connect. You will see two options: **WhatsApp API or WhatsApp Business number** and **Instagram Business or Creator account**. Select **Instagram** to continue.
* A new window opens and asks you to log in to your Instagram account. Enter your Instagram username (or email address) and password. You may be asked whether you want to save your login information in the browser. This is optional and up to you.
* After you log in, Instagram asks you to give DoubleTick access to your account. Turn on both **Allow access to messages** and **Profile and media access**, then click **Allow**.
* Wait a few moments while the connection processes. Once it is complete, your Instagram account appears in the **Manage channels** section with a **Connected** status.

Once connected, take a look at [what you can and can't do on Instagram conversations](/additonal-channels/instagram/capabilities-and-limitations.md), and how to [restrict who on your team can access the channel](#how-to-assign-instagram-channel-access-to-team-members).

#### How to assign Instagram channel access to team members

<figure><img src="https://2303112206-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F53n17VnOICC1LtDqlENV%2Fuploads%2FhJlzXVCPVQlOCdVIAn4Q%2FUntitled%20design%20-%202026-04-20T182026.231.gif?alt=media&#x26;token=c8bedee3-ec2c-4094-98d1-3a972adce2b0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you have multiple team members but want only specific people to handle Instagram conversations, you can restrict channel access using the **Manage Assignee** option. For example, if your team has five members but only two should manage Instagram messages:

* Go to **Settings → Manage Channels** and find your connected Instagram channel.
* Click the three-dot menu next to the channel and select **Manage Assignee**.
* Select the team members you want to give access to, assign their roles, and confirm your selection.

Once this is done, only the assigned team members can see and respond to Instagram messages. The other team members no longer have access to the channel.

#### Key takeaways

* Only Instagram business or creator accounts can connect to DoubleTick. Personal accounts aren't supported.
* Connect your account from **Settings → Manage channels → Connect new channels**.
* You need to grant DoubleTick access to your messages, profile, and media during setup.
* Once connected, your channel shows a **Connected** status in Manage channels.
* By default, only owners and the person who onboarded the channel can see Instagram messages.
* Use **Manage Assignee** from the channel's three-dot menu to open access to specific team members.
* Team members who aren't assigned can't see or respond to Instagram conversations.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.doubletick.io/additonal-channels/instagram/how-to-onboard-your-instagram-account.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
