Unable to Receive OTP on WhatsApp Business App? Here’s What to Do

If you are trying to log in to your WhatsApp Business App and are not receiving the OTP via SMS or Call, the issue is generally related to device settings, SIM placement, or network configuration.

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Why OTP Verification Fails

OTP verification may fail due to:

  • Wi-Fi enabled instead of mobile data

  • SIM not inserted in the same device

  • Weak or unstable network signal

  • App permissions not granted

  • DND (Do Not Disturb) enabled

  • Carrier restrictions or roaming

  • Insufficient SIM balance (in certain regions)

  • App cache or installation issues

Step 1: Check Mobile Network Connection

OTP verification works through your SIM network.

Ensure the following:

  • Mobile Data is turned ON

  • Wi-Fi is turned OFF during the OTP process

  • Network signal bars are stable

Why this is important: OTP is delivered via your SIM network. Wi-Fi can interfere with auto-detection and missed call verification.

Step 2: Ensure SIM and WhatsApp Business App Are on the Same Device

The number being verified must meet both conditions:

  • The SIM card is inserted in the same phone

  • WhatsApp Business App is installed on that same phone

OTP will not work if:

  • The SIM is placed in another device

  • The SIM is in a portable hotspot device

  • The number is a landline

Step 3: Reinstall WhatsApp Business and Allow All Permissions

If the network and SIM placement are correct, refresh the app setup.

3.1 Uninstall WhatsApp Business

Temporarily remove the app from your device.

3.2 Reinstall the App

Download it again from:

  • Google Play Store (Android)

  • Apple App Store (iPhone)

3.3 Enable All Required Permissions

After reinstalling:

  1. Open Phone Settings

  2. Go to Apps / App Management

  3. Select WhatsApp Business

  4. Open Permissions

  5. Allow all available permissions, including:

  • Phone

  • SMS

  • Contacts

  • Call Logs

  • Notifications

  • Location

  • Camera

  • Microphone

  • Photos & Videos

  • Storage / Media

  • Nearby Devices

Why permissions matter: Certain permissions are necessary for automatic OTP detection and call-based verification.

Step 4: Test SIM Functionality

Before retrying verification, confirm that the SIM is working correctly.

Test SMS: Send or receive a normal SMS from another number.

Test Call: Call the number and confirm it can receive calls.

If both SMS and calls work, the SIM is functioning correctly. If either fails, contact your mobile network provider.

Step 5: Retry OTP Verification

Once the device setup is correct:

5.1 Try Auto Verification

After entering your number:

  • WhatsApp may place a missed call

  • The app attempts automatic number detection

If auto-verification succeeds, proceed with login.

5.2 Try SMS Verification

If auto-verification fails:

  • Select “Verify via SMS”

  • Wait for the OTP

  • Enter the OTP to complete verification

Additional Checks If OTP Still Fails

If the issue continues:

  • Disable DND (Do Not Disturb)

  • Ensure the number is not in roaming

  • Check SIM balance (required in some regions)

  • Restart the device

  • Move to an area with stronger network signal

Following these steps resolves most OTP verification issues on the WhatsApp Business App. If the problem persists after completing all steps, contact your mobile network provider for further assistance.
