# How to setup DoubleTick MCP server in Claude

Learn how to connect DoubleTick to Claude using the DoubleTick MCP server, so you can look up customers, check chats, and take actions on DoubleTick directly from a Claude conversation.

The **DoubleTick MCP server** connects your DoubleTick account to **Claude** through the **Model Context Protocol (MCP)**. Once connected, Claude can look up customer details, show recent chats, check your wallet balance, and assign conversations.

#### How to connect DoubleTick with Claude via MCP

<figure><img src="https://2303112206-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F53n17VnOICC1LtDqlENV%2Fuploads%2Fw5XXr2jrJymqdSG5UdTL%2FConnect%20Claude%20to%20MCP%20Server.gif?alt=media&amp;token=4b98245f-218b-467c-ae11-75ed536e314c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Log in** to DoubleTick. Go to **Settings → Developer API** and **copy** your **Developer API Token**.
* **Build** your MCP server URL: `https://mcp.doubletick.io/mcp?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN`. Replace `YOUR_API_TOKEN` with your copied token.
* **Open** [**claude.ai**](https://claude.ai) and **log in**.
* **Click** your profile or **Customize** in the sidebar or settings menu.
* Under **Connectors** or **Integrations**, **click** the **+** icon.
* **Select** **Add Custom Connector**.
* **Enter** a connector name, such as **DoubleTick**.
* **Paste** your MCP server URL into the **Server URL** field.
* **Click** **Add** to save the connector.

Once saved, Claude has access to DoubleTick tools in your conversations. **Open** a new conversation and **try** an example prompt to confirm the connection.

#### What MCP can and can't do

The DoubleTick MCP server can do everything that DoubleTick's **public APIs** can do, and nothing more. If an action has no public API, MCP cannot perform it.

For example, there is no public API to create a bot in **Bot Studio**. Claude cannot create or edit bots through MCP. DoubleTick does have public APIs for:

* **Creating** a broadcast list
* **Adding** numbers to a broadcast list
* **Sending** a broadcast or message
* **Adding** a customer note

You can ask Claude to perform these actions through the DoubleTick MCP server. Available MCP actions expand as DoubleTick adds public APIs.

#### Example prompts to try

* "Look up customer details for 91XXXXXXXXXX"
* "Show recent chat messages for this number"
* "What's our wallet balance?"
* "Assign this conversation to \[team member]"

#### Keep your token and URL private

Your **Developer API Token** grants direct access to your DoubleTick account. Treat it like a password. Do not share your full MCP server URL publicly. It already contains your token. If your token is exposed, **regenerate** it from **Settings → Developer API** and **update** your MCP server URL.

#### Key takeaways

* The **DoubleTick MCP server** connects DoubleTick to Claude through MCP.
* You need a **Developer API Token** and an MCP server URL.
* MCP can perform actions supported by DoubleTick's **public APIs**.
* Actions without a public API, such as creating a bot in **Bot Studio**, are unavailable.
* Keep your token and full MCP URL **private**.

#### Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>Where do I get my Developer API Token?</summary>

From your DoubleTick account, go to Settings → Developer API and copy your Developer API Token.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I use an AI client other than Claude with the DoubleTick MCP server?</summary>

Yes. This guide uses Claude as the example client, but the same DoubleTick MCP server URL works with any AI client that supports custom MCP connectors. The exact steps to add a connector will vary by client.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What can Claude do once it's connected to DoubleTick?</summary>

Claude can use DoubleTick tools such as looking up customer details, showing recent chat messages, checking your wallet balance, and assigning conversations to a team member.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can Claude do anything on DoubleTick through MCP?</summary>

No. MCP can only perform actions that already have a public API on DoubleTick. If there is no public API for something, such as creating a bot in Bot Studio, Claude cannot do it through MCP either.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What kind of actions are available through MCP?</summary>

Any action backed by a DoubleTick public API, such as creating a broadcast list, adding numbers to a broadcast list, sending a broadcast, sending a message, and adding a note to a customer.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is it safe to share my MCP server URL?</summary>

No. Your MCP server URL includes your Developer API Token, so anyone with the full URL has direct access to your DoubleTick account. Keep it as private as your API token.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What do I do if my token or MCP URL is exposed?</summary>

Regenerate your Developer API Token from Settings → Developer API, then update your MCP server URL with the new token wherever you use it.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.doubletick.io/automations-and-integrations/integration/how-to-setup-doubletick-mcp-server-in-claude.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
