API to API Migration Guide: Migrating an Existing WhatsApp API Number to DoubleTick

Purpose of This Article

This guide helps DoubleTick team members understand and execute API to API migration correctly.

API to API migration means: A customer already has a WhatsApp API number onboarded with another BSP, and now wants to migrate that same number to DoubleTick.

During this process:

• The number is fully moved from the old BSP to DoubleTick

• Messaging on the previous BSP stops permanently after migration

When Is API to API Migration Required?

Use this process when:

• The number is already on WhatsApp Cloud API

• The number is NOT on WhatsApp Business App

• The customer wants to change BSPs and move to DoubleTick

Entry Points: Two Possible Scenarios

Case 1: Fresh DoubleTick Account (First Number)

• Customer logs in using phone number + OTP

• Dashboard shows Get Started

• Clicking Get Started begins onboarding immediately

Case 2: Existing DoubleTick Account (Additional WABA)

• Go to Settings

• Open Manage WABAs

• Click Add Number (top-right corner)

Once you reach Add Number, the process is the same for both cases.

Step-by-Step Migration Process

Step 1: Click “Add Number” (Embedded Signup)

• Start onboarding using Embedded Signup

• Select onboarding method

Step 2: Select Correct Onboarding Method

You will see two options:

1. Connect WhatsApp API number (Cloud API)

2. Connect your existing WhatsApp Business number (Coexistence)

👉 Select: Connect WhatsApp API number (This is mandatory for API → API migration)

Step 3: Facebook Integration Flow

• Continue as your Facebook profile

• Read the onboarding information screen

• Click Continue

Step 4: Select Business Portfolio

• Choose the Business Portfolio where the number should be added

• Click Next

Step 5: Select or Create WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

You now have two options:

• Select an existing WABA from the dropdown

• OR click Create a WhatsApp Business Account

After selection/creation, click Next

Step 6: Create WhatsApp Business Profile

Fill in the following:

• WhatsApp Business Account Name (internal)

• WhatsApp Display Name (customer-visible)

• Category

Click Next

Step 7: Enter Existing API Number

• Enter the same number currently active with another BSP

• Choose verification method:

  • Text message (recommended)

  • Phone call

Click Next

Step 8: Migration Prompt (Expected Behavior)

You will see a warning prompt stating:

This number is registered with another Business Solution Provider. Continuing will move the number to your new WhatsApp Business Account. Messaging on the previous BSP will stop.

👉 This confirms API to API migration Click Next

Step 9: OTP Verification

• OTP is sent to the number

• Enter the 6-digit OTP

• Click Next

Step 10: Migration Complete

• Status shows Connected

• Number is now live on DoubleTick

• Old BSP access is automatically revoked

Important Notes

• Migration is irreversible

• Templates may need re-sync or re-approval

• Chat history does not migrate

• Ensure customer consent before proceeding
