* [Represent your business, product, or department](#represent-your-business-product-or-department)
* [Avoid generic, misleading, or promotional names](#avoid-generic-misleading-or-promotional-names)
* [No reference to Meta or its products](#no-reference-to-meta-or-its-products)

* [Using "by company name" when branding isn't obvious](#using-by-company-name-when-branding-isnt-obvious)
* [Agency, partner, or subsidiary relationships](#agency-partner-or-subsidiary-relationships)

#### Represent your business, product, or department

Your Display Name should clearly represent:

* your business
* your product or service
* your department (if applicable)
* or a test/demo account that is clearly linked to your business

**Accepted examples**

* Fresh Produce Boston
* Fresh Produce Customer Service Department
* Fresh Produce by Global Grocers Inc.

**Not accepted**

* Tom Ford Nike (unless the relationship between the brands is clearly shown on external sources like a website or social media)

{% hint style="info" %}
**Using a personal name?** If your Display Name includes a person's name, the nature of the business must be clearly mentioned on external sources too. For example, ✅ *Tom Ford Chiropractor* is fine, but ❌ *Tom Ford* on its own isn't.
{% endhint %}

#### Avoid generic, misleading, or promotional names

Your Display Name must not be generic, misleading, or promotional.

**Not allowed**

* Generic terms, like *Fashion* or *Juice*
* Generic geographic locations, like *New York*
* Names that imply verification or endorsement, like *Fresh Produce Official Account* or *Verified Minni's Muffins*

{% hint style="warning" %}
Meta does not allow words like *Official* or *Verified* in Display Names, as they may mislead customers.
{% endhint %}

#### No reference to Meta or its products

Your Display Name must not reference Meta or any Meta-owned platforms.

**Not accepted**

* Minni's Muffins – Meta
* Minni's Muffins WhatsApp
* Minni's Muffins pop-up on Facebook

This helps prevent confusion and impersonation.

#### No advertising or promotional language

Your Display Name should reflect only your business name, not offers or claims.

**Not accepted**

* Sarah's Sporting Goods – 20% Off Sale
* Sarah's Sporting Goods: Best Rated Sporting Goods Store in Texas

Promotions, offers, and marketing messages are not allowed in Display Names.

#### Display name must not look like a website or email

To prevent phishing and maintain professionalism, Display Names cannot be formatted as URLs or email addresses.

**Not accepted**

* <https://minnismuffins.net>
* sarahssportinggoods.com
* <hello@freshproducejuices.com>

#### Clear relationship with legal name and external branding

Your Display Name must have a clear relationship with your legal business name and be consistent with external branding such as your website, marketing materials, and business documents.

**Accepted examples**

* Fresh Produce Cold Pressed Juices
* Fresh Produce Cold Pressed Juices Mexico
* Fresh Produce Juices
* Fresh Produce Juices – Jessica
* FP Cold Pressed Juices
* FPCP Juices

**Not accepted**

* Digital Cloud Solutions (if this name cannot be found on any external source like your website)

#### Using "by company name" when branding isn't obvious

If your brand name isn't clearly linked to your legal company name, you must show the relationship.

**Accepted**

* Fruit Snacks by Fresh Produce (when Fresh Produce is clearly shown as the parent company on external sources)

**Not accepted**

* Fruit Snacks (if the connection to Fresh Produce isn't visible anywhere externally)

#### Agency, partner, or subsidiary relationships

If your Display Name represents a subsidiary, a partner, a distributor, or a client business, the relationship must be clearly stated on your website.

**Example:** If *Global Voyager* wants the Display Name *Commercial Air*, they must provide a website page confirming that Commercial Air is a subsidiary of Global Voyager.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Without this proof, the Display Name will be rejected.
{% endhint %}

#### Key takeaways

* Every Display Name is manually reviewed by Meta
* Approval depends on policy compliance plus external brand consistency
* Even small mismatches between your Display Name and your external branding can lead to rejection
* Words like *Official* or *Verified*, promotional language, and Meta references are never allowed
* If your Display Name uses a different brand or a personal name, the connection to your business must be visible externally

#### FAQs

**Can my Display Name be different from my legal business name?**\
Yes, as long as the connection between the two is clearly visible on your website or other external branding.

**Why was my Display Name rejected even though it's my real business name?**\
Meta may not have found evidence of the name on your external sources. Make sure your website and social pages clearly show the same name.

**Can I include an offer or discount in my Display Name?**\
No, promotional or advertising language of any kind is not allowed in Display Names.

**Can my Display Name mention WhatsApp or Facebook?**\
No, Display Names cannot reference Meta or any Meta-owned platform.

**What if my Display Name still gets rejected after following these guidelines?**\
You can appeal the rejection. See [How to Appeal for a Rejected Display Name](/meta-business-setup/display-name/how-to-appeal-for-a-rejected-display-name.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.doubletick.io/meta-business-setup/display-name/whatsapp-business-display-name-guidelines.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
