**Step 1: Open Meta Business Suite**\
Open Google Chrome (recommended), go to [www.facebookbusiness.com](http://www.facebookbusiness.com), and log in with your Facebook credentials.

**Step 2: Select the correct Business Portfolio**\
On the left-hand side, click the Business Portfolio dropdown, and select the Business Portfolio where your WhatsApp API number is currently onboarded. Make sure you select the correct portfolio that contains the number you want to update.

**Step 3: Open Business Settings**\
On the right-hand side, click the gear icon (Settings). This opens Business Settings. If prompted, enter the authentication code — see [how to check which number receives your 2FA code](/meta-business-setup/two-factor-authentication/managing-2fa-on-facebook.md#how-to-check-the-phone-number-linked-to-your-2fa) if you need help locating it.

**Step 4: Navigate to WhatsApp accounts**\
In the left menu, go to **Accounts**, and click on **WhatsApp Accounts**. You'll see all WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) listed.

**Step 5: Select the correct WhatsApp Business Account**\
Identify the WhatsApp Business Account that contains your API number, and click on that account.

**Step 6: Open WhatsApp Manager**\
Scroll down and click on **WhatsApp Manager**. A new tab will open showing your API numbers.

**Step 7: Open the API number settings**\
Click on the API number or its Display Name. A panel will open with multiple tabs such as Insights, Profile, Certificate, Automation, Messaging Links, and Two-Step Verification.

**Step 8: Turn off two-step verification**\
Click on **Two-Step Verification**, then click **Turn Off Two-Step Verification**. You'll see a message stating that instructions have been sent to your registered email.

**Step 9: Confirm through email**\
Open the registered email inbox and look for an email related to WhatsApp Two-Step Verification. Click the link inside the email, then click **Turn Off Two-Step Verification** (green button). Once completed, two-step verification will be disabled.

{% hint style="info" %}
Turning off two-step verification for your WhatsApp API number is different from managing 2FA on your Facebook account. If you also want to change your Facebook login security method — check your linked number, switch to Google Authenticator, or disable it — see [managing two-factor authentication on Facebook](/meta-business-setup/two-factor-authentication/managing-2fa-on-facebook.md).
{% endhint %}

#### Key takeaways

* Two-step verification for a WhatsApp API number is managed in WhatsApp Manager, inside Business Settings.
* Turning it off requires confirming through a link sent to your registered email.
* Make sure you've selected the correct Business Portfolio, WABA, and API number before making changes.
* This is separate from Facebook account-level 2FA.

#### Frequently asked questions

**Where do I manage two-step verification for a WhatsApp API number?**\
In WhatsApp Manager, under the specific API number's Two-Step Verification tab, accessible via Business Settings > WhatsApp Accounts.

**Why do I need to confirm through email?**\
It's a security measure to make sure the change is authorized by the account owner before two-step verification is turned off.

**What if I have multiple WhatsApp Business Accounts?**\
Make sure you select the correct WABA and API number in Step 5 and Step 7 — settings apply per number, not across your whole portfolio.

**Is disabling WhatsApp two-step verification the same as disabling Facebook 2FA?**\
No, they're separate. WhatsApp two-step verification protects your API number specifically, while Facebook 2FA protects your Facebook login.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://learn.doubletick.io/meta-business-setup/two-factor-authentication/how-to-disable-two-step-verification-for-your-whatsapp-number.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
