API to API Migration Guide: Migrating an Existing WhatsApp API Number to DoubleTick

API to API Migration is required when you want to move your existing WhatsApp Cloud API number from another API provider to DoubleTick.

This process allows you to retain the same phone number while changing your API provider.


Important: Before You Begin

Before starting API to API migration, you must disable Two-Step Verification for your WhatsApp API number in Meta Business Manager.

If it is enabled, migration may fail.

Once disabled, continue with the steps below.


When Is API to API Migration Required?

Use this process if:

  • Your number is already on WhatsApp Cloud API

  • The number is NOT on the WhatsApp Business App

  • The number is NOT using Coexistence

  • You want to move your number from another BSP to DoubleTick


Where Do You Start in DoubleTick?

Case 1: Fresh DoubleTick Account (First Number)

  • Customer logs in using phone number + OTP

  • Dashboard shows Get Started

  • Clicking Get Started begins onboarding immediately

Case 2: Existing DoubleTick Account (Additional WABA)

  • Go to Settings

  • Open Manage WABAs

  • Click Add Number (top-right corner)

Once you reach Add Number, the process is the same for both cases.


Step-by-Step Migration Process

Step 1: Start Embedded Signup

  1. Click Add Number.

  2. Begin onboarding using Embedded Signup.

  3. Select onboarding method.


Step 2: Select Correct Onboarding Method

You will see two options:

  • Connect WhatsApp API number (Cloud API)

  • Connect your existing WhatsApp Business number (Coexistence)

Select: Connect WhatsApp API number

This is mandatory for API to API migration.


Step 3: Facebook Integration Flow

  1. Continue as your Facebook profile.

  2. Review the onboarding screen.

  3. Click Continue.


Step 4: Select Business Portfolio

  1. Choose the Business Portfolio.

  2. Click Next.


Step 5: Select or Create WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

You may:

  • Select an existing WABA

  • Create a new WABA

Click Next after selection.


Step 6: Create WhatsApp Business Profile

Fill in:

  • WhatsApp Business Account Name (internal)

  • WhatsApp Display Name (customer-visible)

  • Category

Click Next.


Important: Keep Display Name and Category Identical

During onboarding, use the exact same:

  • Display Name

  • Category

as your previous setup.

You can change these after migration is complete.

Keeping them identical ensures:

  • Message templates transfer properly

  • Daily messaging limits remain intact

  • Blue tick verification (if applicable) transfers correctly

If these do not match, there is a risk that templates, limits, or verification may not migrate successfully.


Step 7: Enter Existing API Number

  1. Enter the same number currently active with another BSP.

  2. Choose verification method:

    • Text message (recommended)

    • Phone call

  3. Click Next.


Step 8: Migration Warning Prompt

You will see a warning stating:

  • The number is registered with another BSP.

  • Continuing will move the number.

  • Messaging on the previous BSP will stop.

Click Next to proceed.


Step 9: OTP Verification

  1. Enter the 6-digit OTP received.

  2. Click Next.


Step 10: Migration Complete

  • Status shows Connected.

  • Number is live on DoubleTick.

  • Old BSP access is revoked automatically.


Important Notes

  • Migration is irreversible

  • Templates may need re-sync or re-approval

  • Chat history does not migrate

  • Ensure customer consent before proceeding
