WhatsApp Says “Temporarily Unavailable”?

Here’s Exactly What It Means & How to Fix It (Step-by-Step

If you’re trying to log into WhatsApp on your phone and see this message:

“WhatsApp is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 1 hour.”

Don’t worry — nothing is wrong with your phone, your SIM, or your network.

This happens only for one reason:

👉 Your phone number is still connected to WhatsApp Business API (WABA)

This means the number is still active inside DoubleTick (or another API provider), so WhatsApp blocks it from being used on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business App.

To use WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business App again, you MUST downgrade the number.

This article explains:

  • Why this error happens

  • How to downgrade your number

  • What to do if both downgrade methods fail

  • How to get DoubleTick Support to downgrade it for you

Let’s make it simple.

🧠 Why This Error Happens

WhatsApp has two types of accounts:

1️⃣ WhatsApp Mobile App (Personal/Business)

Used on your phone.

2️⃣ WhatsApp Business API

Used by business platforms like DoubleTick. Runs on cloud servers, not phones.

If your number is still registered in the API, WhatsApp blocks you from using it on mobile. That’s when you see this error:

“WhatsApp is temporarily unavailable”

It does NOT mean:

  • Your phone is blocked ❌

  • WhatsApp is down ❌

  • Your SIM has a problem ❌

It ONLY means:

👉 Your number hasn’t been removed from the API yet.

🛠️ How to Fix It (You Must Downgrade the Number)

Below are two downgrade methods depending on your situation.

🟢 METHOD 1 — If You Can Log Into DoubleTick

Step 1: Log in to DoubleTick Dashboard

Use your mobile number & OTP.

Step 2: Click “Go to FBM Account”

This opens your connected Meta Business Manager.

Step 3: Go to Phone Numbers

Inside WhatsApp Manager → Click Phone Numbers

Step 4: Delete Your API Number

Next to your number, click the 🗑️ Trash icon Confirm deletion.

This removes your number from the API.

Step 5: Wait 1–5 minutes and try logging into WhatsApp again

OTP should come instantly.

🔴 METHOD 2 — If Your DoubleTick Subscription is Expired (You Cannot Log In)

You can still downgrade through Facebook Business Manager.

Step 1: Open Meta Business Manager

Go to business.facebook.com

Step 2: Go to Business Settings

Left menu → Business Settings

Step 3: Select WhatsApp Accounts

Go to: Accounts → WhatsApp Accounts

Select your account.

Step 4: Open WhatsApp Manager

Click Settings → WhatsApp Manager

Step 5: Delete Your Number

Go to Phone Numbers Click the 🗑️ Trash icon next to your number Confirm delete.

Step 6: Wait 1–5 minutes and try logging into WhatsApp again

You can now set up WhatsApp normally on your phone.

🧪 How to Know the Downgrade Worked

You will know the downgrade is successful when:

✔ OTP arrives normally ✔ WhatsApp allows you to enter the code ✔ Error message disappears
